Janitzio corner-embroidered placemat, blue houses
Ivory woven placemat with a simple fringed edge and zigzag reinforcement to prevent unraveling. One corner features an embroidered depiction of Janitzio Island: blue-contoured houses, the monument at the top, trees, birds, a smiling sun and, below, the lake with colorful fish and a fisherman in his canoe. The rest of the piece is plain.
Handcrafted item: the embroidery and weaving may vary slightly from one piece to another. The tableware, furniture, and accessories in the lifestyle photos are not included.
Plain fabric, 100% cotton, handcrafted in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán.
Sold individually. Code: AF-MIBE-005-JANITZIO

This is the other half of the story of Janitzio: when the candlelit night fades, the little houses of the island are left with the blue outline of the lake at dawn. The fisherman returns to his canoe, the birds leave the hill, and the sun smiles because everyone returned safely.
The embroiderer made it small, in a single corner, like a keepsake kept in a pocket, and left the rest of the tablecloth plain so that the table could tell its own story.
