They say these three women set up their stall at the Pátzcuaro market during the last days of October, when the whole town went down to buy flowers and fruit for the ofrenda. One sold cempasúchil, another guavas, and the third, the quietest one, gave a piece of fruit to anyone who told her a memory of their deceased loved ones.
At the end of the day, their basket was empty and their hearts full. The embroiderer surrounded them with trees, birds, and a smiling sun, and gave them a wine-colored frame so they would never have to take down their stall.
